![]() There’s no substitute for experience in business, and Wayne Massey has a wealth of it in the field of golf course construction, including work alongside the game’s leading architects on some of the finest golf courses in the U.S. Wayne entered the profession in 1983 and worked with Earth Force until 1992, a period during which he worked as shaper on the TPC at Southwind, home of the PGA Tour’s Federal Express St. Jude Classic in Memphis, TN; project manager/shaper at Commonwealth National in Lansdale, PA and the Tom Fazio-designed Centennial nine at Philadelphia Country Club. Wayne also worked closely during that time with Ron Prichard, a Massachusetts-based architect with a reputation for first-class restorations of the early 20th century’s classic courses. In 1992, Wayne moved to Landscapes Unlimited. Wayne’s experience with LU includes work on acclaimed Tom Fazio designs at White Columns in Alpharetta, GA; Reynolds National in Greensboro, GA; and Glenn Oaks in Des Moines, IA; as well as Rees Jones’ heralded design of Poppy Ridge in Livermore, CA. With Mike O’Shea, Wayne founded Medalist Golf in 1996, and his experience has paid off in the completion of more than two-dozen projects, including some of the highest-quality golf courses in the Southeast. "Given our experience and intimate knowledge of the golf course construction business," Wayne says, "I’m confident in our ability to build the best course possible when quality is the client’s number one priority." |
Mike O’Shea joins Wayne Massey in bringing years
of his own experience to Medalist Golf, dating to
1989, when he joined the award-winning firm of
Landscapes Unlimited. Mike’s project experience
with LU includes work on a pair of celebrated Tom
Fazio designs: White Columns in Alpharetta, GA,
and Caves Valley in Owings Mills, MD, a Golf
Magazine top-100 honoree; Rees Jones-led
renovations of the Country Club of Virginia and
Atlanta’s fabled East Lake Golf Club (home course
of Bobby Jones); and construction of Bradshaw
Farms, a pristine daily-fee course located in the
Atlanta suburb of Woodstock, GA.
Mike and Wayne joined forces in 1996 to form
Medalist Golf, and Mike’s knowledge and skills
have helped the firm build or renovate some of
golf’s most well-respected facilities during that
time. Medalist’s more than two-dozen projects
include construction of the new nine holes at the TPC Sugarloaf,
home of the BellSouth Classic, the
Tom Fazio-designed
East Course at Belfair in Bluffton, S.C.;
Belfair’s brand new sister courses at Berkeley
Hall, also in Bluffton; and renovation work at
famed venues such as Peachtree Golf Club in
Atlanta, Sea Island Golf Club and the Country
Club of Charleston.
"Medalist Golf is dedicated to building the
highest-quality golf courses in the business,"
Mike says. "A look at the projects we’ve
completed illustrates both the confidence the
developers have placed in us, and the attention
to detail and quality we give each project when
we’re out there in the field."
